Thierno Barry says Everton should have taken all three points at Hull - SportInsight

Thierno Barry felt Everton left a win behind at Hull City, despite taking a point from a 2-2 draw that kept their unbeaten Premier League start intact. “Today I think we deserved to win this game,” the striker said in an interview published by Everton after the match.

Barry scored for the Blues but said he had more chances to finish. “I had a lot of chances to score today,” he said, adding that he needed to be “more efficient”. He thought he could have scored three and said he would keep working ahead of Everton’s next game.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also found the net, scoring his first Premier League goal with a header. He told Everton he had been practising and praised the delivery, before describing the finish with a smile: “I closed my eyes, opened them and it was in the back of the net.”

Dewsbury-Hall called the second half a “whirlwind”. As he put it, Hull went in front, Everton then felt they might win, and Hull struck again. He was disappointed not to leave with all three points, but said the team could take heart from its response after conceding and its willingness to fight until the final minute.

He also praised Barry’s work rate, calling him “one of the hardest-working players I’ve played with”. Dewsbury-Hall said Barry keeps trying to improve, and that he expects more from the striker because he wants the best for him. Barry’s goal was his sixth of the season.

The draw leaves Everton fifth with 10 points from six matches: two wins and four draws. They remain unbeaten, but Dewsbury-Hall said the dressing room felt they could have collected more points from some of their early games. He described the start as good and said the focus was now on building momentum.

Everton’s next league match is at home to Chelsea on 17 October at 12:30 BST. Chelsea are sixth, also on 10 points from six games, setting up an early test between two sides with unbeaten starts to protect.
