Andre Onana’s return to European football delivered a sequence that is hard to script: he conceded straight from a corner, then saved a penalty as Trabzonspor beat KuPS 4-2 away from home.

Trabzonspor had built a 3-0 lead before the corner found its way directly into the net. The moment echoed a goal Onana conceded against Wolverhampton in 2024, when Matheus Cunha also scored from a corner. This time, though, the goalkeeper had a chance to answer almost immediately.

Onana dived to his right to stop a penalty that would have cut the score to 3-2. The save helped keep Trabzonspor’s advantage intact, and the team went on to secure the win. KuPS scored again in the 96th minute, after the contest had already been settled.

The corner concession was the headline moment, but it was not the whole performance. Onana made six saves in total, including four from inside the penalty area. That made for an eventful European return: one goal conceded in particularly unusual fashion, followed by a spot-kick stop and a busy night between the posts.

Onana is at Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United. The result gives his side a win to carry into a Monday-night meeting with Besiktas, who sit two points above them. Trabzonspor are also three points behind league leaders Galatasaray, making the next fixture a chance to close ground on the teams above them.

For Onana, the takeaway is an unusual one: the corner will be remembered, but the penalty save was crucial to keeping the game from tightening at 3-2. Trabzonspor leave with a 4-2 victory and a goalkeeper who managed both the most unlikely setback and a timely response in the same match.
