Martinez doubt and Yoro suspension leave United facing defensive calls before Como - SportInsight

Lisandro Martinez’s absence from Tuesday’s training has put his place in Manchester United’s squad for Como in doubt, while Leny Yoro is suspended for Wednesday’s Champions League match. The reports leave Michael Carrick waiting on several late fitness decisions before United travel to Italy.

The Daily Mail reported that Martinez missed the session with a thigh issue. He had been forced off at half-time during United’s 1-1 draw at Leeds United. Yoro, meanwhile, is unavailable after receiving a red card against Atletico Madrid, according to the Manchester Evening News, as reported by The Peoples Person.

Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford were also absent from the group session, The Peoples Person reported. United will assess all five players before deciding whether they travel, so missing training does not by itself rule any of them out.

The absences have different backgrounds. Mainoo has missed United’s last two games with a minor issue, while Rashford has been managing a hip problem. Heaven missed the Leeds match through illness, and Shaw’s most recent appearance was against Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago, according to The Peoples Person. The same report says Shaw has already been sidelined twice this season.

Carrick oversaw a light session involving 22 players, the Manchester Evening News reported. Yoro was due to complete full training separately despite being suspended for Como. Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko remain long-term absentees.

The defensive picture is the immediate concern: Martinez is a doubt and Yoro cannot play, while Shaw and Heaven are among the players awaiting checks. United’s decisions on the five training absentees will shape the options Carrick takes into the match; the reports do not establish that any of them are ruled out.

Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, will be United’s third opponent in the Champions League group. United beat Sabah FK in their opener before losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid. They arrive after a 1-1 draw at Leeds and sit 13th in the Premier League with seven points from seven games. Wednesday’s kick-off is scheduled for 5.45pm, with Bournemouth due at Old Trafford on Sunday.
