Manchester United have joined Tottenham in pursuing Giuliano Simeone, according to Spurs Web, citing Mundo Deportivo, but Atlético Madrid reportedly have no intention of selling the winger in the upcoming transfer window.
Mundo Deportivo reports that United’s hierarchy admire the 23-year-old and that club scouts watched him closely when Atlético and United met at the Metropolitano Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday. The report does not describe a bid or formal talks.
Tottenham had already explored a move, with TEAMtalk reporting earlier this week that manager Roberto De Zerbi was driving the club’s interest. TEAMtalk said De Zerbi viewed Simeone as a fit for his system and for Premier League football. Spurs Web, citing Mundo Deportivo, says several English clubs have taken notice of the winger’s recent performances and see his intensity, attacking versatility, aggression and pressing as qualities suited to the league.
Simeone has scored twice and provided two assists in eight games for Atlético this season, as the Spanish club sit second in La Liga. Spurs Web also reports that he made three appearances for Argentina at the World Cup, playing 193 minutes. He recorded three key passes, 10 duels won and an 82 per cent passing accuracy, with no goals or assists; those figures were listed as correct on 16 October 2026.
The reported interest comes despite substantial barriers to a deal. Mundo Deportivo says Simeone is under contract with Atlético until 2030 and has a release clause of around €500 million (£422 million). It also describes him as emotionally connected to the club, which he has supported throughout his life. Atlético reportedly regard the winger as “untouchable” and consider a short-term departure “virtually impossible”.
Simeone has faced criticism from Atlético supporters, Spurs Web reports, but his recent form has drawn attention from Premier League clubs. Any pursuit by United or Tottenham would therefore depend on Atlético changing its reported position.
The clubs have contrasting league situations: Manchester United are 13th in the Premier League with six points from six games, while Tottenham are 19th with three. For now, the reported competition for Simeone has not changed Atlético’s stance: the club are said to have no interest in selling him in the upcoming window.
