Alexander Isak completed Liverpool’s comeback with a 70th-minute winner in a 2-1 victory at Brentford. The result puts Liverpool fifth in the Premier League on 12 points after seven games, two points ahead of sixth-placed Brentford.
Brentford struck first just before half-time. Keane Lewis-Potter scored in the 44th minute, finishing a move assisted by Igor Thiago to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Brentford were reduced to 10 men when Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off.
Liverpool drew level in the 62nd minute. Florian Wirtz set up Víctor Muñoz, who made it 1-1. Isak then put Liverpool ahead eight minutes later, with Bradley Barcola providing the assist.
The win leaves Liverpool with a WLWDW sequence across their last five league matches, listed most recent first. Brentford’s corresponding run is LDWDD. Liverpool have 12 points from seven games; Brentford have 10 from the same number of matches.
Both sides are back in action on Sunday 25 October at 14:00 GMT. Liverpool host Brighton and Hove Albion, while Brentford travel to Hull City. Liverpool head into that home fixture having turned a half-time deficit into three points; Brentford will look to respond after losing despite taking the lead.
