Glasner returns to Selhurst Park after Palace’s Conference League triumph - SportInsight

Oliver Glasner’s first return to Selhurst Park since leaving Crystal Palace comes with Nottingham Forest carrying two notable away results into the fixture: a win at Aston Villa and a point at Anfield. The manager left Palace after guiding them to the UEFA Conference League title, his third major trophy with the club.

Glasner departed at the end of the 2025/26 season. On Sunday 11 October, he will face his former side from the away dugout for the first time since that exit, with kick-off set for 14:00 BST.

The return is personal as well as a test of Forest’s early form. Glasner said he had “mixed emotions” and “fantastic memories” of more than two years at Palace. He also praised the club’s supporters and staff, describing his time there as “two very successful, and a great two years of my life”.

Forest’s first five league games under Glasner have brought the away win at Villa and the draw at Anfield, but they have yet to win at home. Those results give the manager something to build on as he revisits the ground where he delivered a major trophy; they also make the trip a chance to turn away form into another result against a side he knows well.

Palace, managed by Pierre Sage, are 15th with four points from five matches and have won once in the league. That leaves them with a clear need to improve their start, while Glasner’s return adds an unusual personal dimension to the contest.

The contrast is straightforward: Forest arrive with encouraging results on the road, while Palace need points to move on from a one-win opening five. For Glasner, Selhurst Park will bring back memories of a successful spell; for both teams, Sunday’s match is about what those respective starts can produce next.
