Getafe president Ángel Torres expects the club to know next week whether it can sign Jadon Sancho, with a personal financial guarantee at the centre of the proposed deal. Talks are ongoing; Sancho has not signed for the Spanish side.
Torres said Getafe had revived an approach they first made three or four months ago. “We are talking with Sancho, just as we did three or four months ago,” he said, in comments reported by AS journalist Javier Hernández shortly before Getafe’s Conference League match in Craiova.
The proposed financing has a precedent at the club. Getafe used a president-backed guarantee to sign former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, and Torres would personally provide the guarantee for Sancho. The same formula is being considered for former Valencia captain Dani Parejo, whom Torres called “another option”.
Sancho’s recent figures make the move a gamble on a player with a much higher previous ceiling. In 2025/26 at Aston Villa, he scored once and assisted three times in 39 appearances, making 18 starts and playing 1,695 minutes. At Chelsea the season before, he registered five goals and eight assists in 41 appearances.
Those returns are far below his output at Borussia Dortmund, where he recorded 52 goals and 57 assists in 157 appearances across his spells. Sancho left Manchester City’s academy for Dortmund in 2017, then joined Manchester United in 2021 after a pursuit that stretched across multiple transfer windows. He scored 12 goals and supplied six assists in 82 United appearances and was part of their 2023 League Cup-winning squad.
A loan return to Dortmund in January 2024 took him to that season’s Champions League final. He then spent 2024/25 on loan at Chelsea. Getafe’s Conference League involvement offers a European setting for a potential fresh start, but the immediate question is whether Torres’s guarantee can turn talks into an agreement.
“Next week it will be possible to confirm whether or not we have closed these negotiations,” Torres said. That is the stated deadline for clarity, not confirmation of a completed transfer.
