Farke urges patience with Carrick as United sit 13th - SportInsight

Michael Carrick has six league matches to judge so far, and Daniel Farke says that is too soon to question Manchester United’s manager. The Leeds boss made the case for patience ahead of Sunday’s meeting, while United’s place in the table shows why Carrick needs a response: they are 13th with six points, three places and three points behind Leeds.

“We don’t have many young British coaches in the Premier League,” Farke said at his Friday press conference. “If we have young promising managers, let’s look after them.” He said criticism had begun after six games and argued that United’s title ambitions have raised expectations around the start.

Farke also pointed to Carrick’s work at Middlesbrough and his spell as United’s interim manager. Carrick recorded 12 wins, three draws and two defeats in 17 games in that interim role, a run that helped United finish third and return to the Champions League, as reported by The Peoples Person. Farke described that contribution as a “tremendous job” in a difficult situation and referred to Carrick’s long service to United as both a player and coach.

The defence offers a case for giving a young manager time, but it does not remove the pressure of the present job. The debate over whether Carrick should be sacked has begun, and United’s six points from six matches leave little room for the table to make that argument for him. Results will carry more weight than his earlier record if the current run continues.

Sunday’s visit to Leeds gives Carrick an immediate opportunity to improve United’s position. Leeds have nine points and sit seventh, so a win would also give United a chance to close the gap to their hosts. Farke has made his view clear; the performance and points at Elland Road will determine how persuasive that call for patience feels.
