Bournemouth are prepared to consider selling Alex Scott in January for an offer of about £100 million, the BBC reports, but their position in the Premier League could decide whether a deal goes ahead. The club may keep the 23-year-old midfielder if they believe they need him in their fight for survival.
The reported shift follows a final round of talks between Bournemouth’s senior figures and Scott’s representatives. Bournemouth had previously refused to sell him in the summer, while Metro reports that Scott rejected two contract offers earlier this year and appears keen to move on.
The Cherries are 18th after six league games, with three points from three draws and three defeats. Their league position gives the club a reason to weigh any substantial bid against the need to retain Scott. The BBC’s reported price is not a guarantee of a January departure: Bournemouth’s decision may also depend on whether they feel secure enough to let him go.
Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with the England midfielder. Metro reports that Chelsea are seeking a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who left for Manchester City. Liverpool are managed by former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola. Scott made his first two England appearances during the recent international break, Metro reports.
Manchester United also looked into the cost of signing Scott in the summer, The Peoples Person reports, but Bournemouth told the club he was not for sale. The same outlet says Scott was thought willing to join United, although the club did not push after hearing Bournemouth’s stance. United instead signed Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos after missing out on Elliot Anderson and Ederson, who failed his medical. The Sun, as cited by The Peoples Person, reported that United insiders described Tielemans and Santos as “a long way down the list”.
The Peoples Person also reports, citing transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, that United could consider January signings if their form remains poor and the right players become available. That leaves Scott’s situation open on two fronts: interested clubs would need to meet Bournemouth’s reported asking price, and Bournemouth would need to judge that selling would not undermine their survival effort.
