Venezia have lost all six of their Serie A matches, and their 3-1 defeat at Atalanta has put Giovanni Stroppa’s position under review again. The club sit alone at the bottom with zero points, leaving its leadership to decide whether to keep faith with the coach or make a change.
Venezia had backed Stroppa before the international break, hoping results would turn around with him in charge. But after the latest loss, the club is expected to assess his position in the coming hours, Sky Sport reported. Dismissal and a mutual agreement to part ways are both possible.
The run has continued despite Stroppa’s belief that his players are performing better than their results suggest. Speaking to DAZN after the Atalanta match, he said Venezia had created chances but had been punished by careless defending. He also described the second-half performance as strong. “You shouldn’t ask me about trust,” Stroppa said, before adding: “I take all the responsibility.”
That leaves the club weighing his assessment against a stark league position: six defeats, no points and last place. A change would bring an immediate familiar option into the discussion. Paolo Zanetti is reported by Sky Sport to be the leading candidate if Venezia and Stroppa separate.
Zanetti previously coached Venezia from August 2020 until April 2022, guiding the club from Serie B to promotion through the play-off final. He has been without a club since his relationship with Verona ended in February 2026, according to the report. His previous spell gives Venezia a candidate who already knows the club, but no decision on Stroppa’s future has been announced.
For now, the call rests with Venezia’s leadership: give Stroppa more time to reverse a winless start, or act after six consecutive defeats. The next decision will determine whether the club tries to turn its season around with the current coach or begins again under a familiar face.
