Luciano Spalletti says he will review both his communication with Juventus and the team’s working methods after a 3-0 home defeat by Lazio that left him surprised by the performance. Juventus finished to whistles at the Allianz Stadium, with the coach describing his side as inferior, slow and short of ideas.

Spalletti watched from the stands while serving a suspension following his dismissal against Cagliari. Speaking to DAZN after the match, he said Juventus had lacked control and a clear idea of how to shape the game. “Since Thursday, we haven’t done anything,” he said, adding that his players had been “slow in the legs and in the head”.

The coach said he had tried to adjust the team in line with what had been discussed during the week. But, in his assessment, Juventus were late to situations, making tactics and systems ineffective. He also criticised the side’s lack of rhythm, running and willingness, and its reaction after losing duels. Spalletti said there had been attitudes he did not like, without naming individual players.

His comments point to a problem beyond the result: Spalletti is questioning how the group prepares and how his message is reaching it. He said he wanted to speak with the players and valued his relationship with them, but added that something had to change. He also placed responsibility on the squad’s response, saying Juventus’ future depended on their will rather than good luck.

The defeat leaves Juventus eighth with 11 points from six games. Lazio are third on 16 and remain unbeaten, with five wins and a draw. The gap in the table underlines the cost of a performance Spalletti said lacked both control and resilience.

Juventus’ next opportunity to respond is away to Lecce on Sunday, 25 October. Spalletti’s focus is not only on improving the result, but on seeing a stronger reaction from the group and reconsidering how the team works ahead of that trip.
