Bologna’s missed opportunity to make it 2-0 against Inter summed up Tommaso Pobega’s frustration after a 3-1 defeat: his side created chances, but did not turn enough of them into goals before Inter had room to respond.

Pobega scored Bologna’s momentary lead, then looked back on the first half as a missed chance to take greater control. Speaking to DAZN after the match, he said Bologna had played at a high level, kept the tempo up and created several scoring situations. The difference, in his view, was finishing.

“I’m happy with the goal, but there’s regret because we could have taken more, especially in the first half,” Pobega said. He included himself in that assessment: with greater composure, he said, his own opportunity could have put Bologna 2-0 ahead.

That second goal mattered because it would have given Bologna a bigger advantage to defend. Instead, as Pobega acknowledged, leaving the game open gave Inter space to bring their quality into it. He said he was despondent at the final whistle and felt Bologna should have got more from the first half. Asked whether he would remember his goal or hitting the crossbar more, he said he was more likely to think of the crossbar.

The result leaves a clear task for Bologna: make their attacking intent count more consistently. Pobega said the team needed to work and find greater understanding so that the tempo and desire to score shown in the first half become a regular feature. That is the central lesson from a match in which a promising lead was not enough to secure a result.

Bologna sit 14th with five points from six league games, while Inter lead the table on 16. Bologna’s next match is away to Cagliari on 24 October. Improving their finishing is the immediate challenge as they look to turn positive spells into points.
