Milan’s preparation for Atalanta comes down to one training session. Ruben Amorim has cancelled his usual pre-match press conference, with the Rossoneri returning from Austria on Friday after Thursday’s Europa League win over Salzburg.
MilanNews reported that Saturday’s training session is the team’s only scheduled workout before Sunday’s Serie A match at San Siro. Calciomercato.com said Amorim chose to use the limited time to work with his players and prepare for the game rather than hold his media conference.
The decision follows a busy run of travel and competition. Milan came back from Salzburg with their first three points of this Europa League league phase, after opening it with a draw against Sassuolo. The focus now switches back to the league, where Atalanta visit San Siro.
Milan enter the fixture sixth with 12 points from six matches. They are unbeaten, with three wins and three draws. Atalanta are 10th on nine points, having recorded three wins and three defeats.
The league positions put Milan ahead, but the immediate challenge for Amorim is preparation: Saturday is his only chance to work with the squad before the match. Milan will also be without Alexis Saelemaekers, who is out with an ankle injury, and Matteo Gabbia, who is sidelined by a thigh injury.
Kick-off is scheduled for Sunday, 18 October, at 18:00 CEST. Milan’s Salzburg victory offered a lift after the draw against Sassuolo, but the short turnaround leaves little time to carry that momentum into Serie A. Amorim’s Saturday session is the final opportunity to prepare the team before Atalanta arrive.
