Ardon Jashari’s 4-0 display against Salzburg gave Milan a clearer look at the deep-lying playmaker they signed—and left Francesco Comotto still waiting for his chance. Jashari completed all 41 of his first-half passes, while Comotto stayed on the bench for the entire match as Luka Modric came on instead.
Jashari was accurate with more than short distribution: he completed all four of his long passes before the break, made four interceptions and recovered seven balls. He made a couple of errors in the second half while building from the back, but also supplied the assist for Santiago Ramos’ goal to make it 4-0.
Calciomercato saw the performance as a concrete demonstration of Jashari’s qualities as a deep-lying playmaker, while noting that Salzburg were not a top-level opponent. The display is a positive step, rather than proof that he has settled the question of Milan’s midfield balance. The outlet also reported that Jashari is working to reach full fitness.
That balance is where Comotto’s situation becomes difficult. Calciomercato argues that Modric, Jashari and the young midfielder have similar characteristics, and that Milan should look for a player more like Yunus Musah. With Comotto unused even after Milan had moved three goals ahead, the outlet’s view is that keeping him in the squad all season makes little sense if he is not going to play.
A January loan is therefore a proposed route to minutes, not a decision Milan have announced. Jashari’s progress may make the competition for a similar midfield role tighter, but Comotto’s future still depends on how the club sees his place in the squad.
Milan are fifth in Serie A, with 12 points from six matches and an unbeaten record of three wins and three draws. Their next game is at home to Atalanta on 18 October. How Jashari’s role develops will help show whether Comotto has a path to playing time at Milan or whether a loan becomes the better option.
