Fedde Leysen set for months out, with Fiorentina trip among Sassuolo games missed

Fedde Leysen is expected to miss several months after tests found a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Sassuolo’s defender is set to miss the early-November home game against Fiorentina, with the club yet to set a return date.

Leysen was injured during Sassuolo’s match against AC Milan on 11 October. The club said his condition would be reassessed in the coming days to establish the treatment and recovery plan. Calciomercato.com reports that he will need reconstructive surgery; the club has not announced a precise timetable.

The immediate fixture impact is clear. Sassuolo host Como on Sunday, 18 October, before Fiorentina are due at the Mapei Stadium at the beginning of November. Leysen is expected to be out for that Fiorentina match and for several months overall, extending his absence beyond the next two fixtures.

For Alberto Aquilani, the injury removes a defender from his options for a prolonged spell. The scale of the squad impact needs context, though: Leysen has made only one league appearance this season. His absence is therefore a long-term setback, but not the loss of a regular league starter based on his involvement so far.
