Diao’s muscle problem leaves Como waiting on Fiorentina availability

Assane Diao’s muscle problem has put his place for Como’s Serie A trip to Fiorentina on Sunday in question, but the club has not given a recovery timeline. The forward scored against Feyenoord and was forced off five minutes later, in the 23rd minute of Como’s 3-2 Champions League defeat at De Kuip.

That leaves Como without a clear answer ahead of their next league fixture: Diao may miss the trip to Florence, but his absence is not confirmed. The match kicks off at 15:00 CEST on Sunday, 18 October.

Diao had given Como the lead in the 18th minute of their historic first European away match. Feyenoord equalised through Zechiël two minutes later, then took control after the break as Hadj Moussa scored in the 52nd minute and an own goal made it 3-1 in the 82nd. Tasos Douvikas pulled one back in stoppage time, but Como could not find an equaliser.

Cesc Fàbregas brought on Jesús Rodríguez for Diao. Rodríguez, Bruno Kaiki and Mattia Liberali all made their Champions League debuts in Rotterdam. Douvikas also entered in the second half and scored Como’s late goal.

Diao’s league numbers this season are limited to one appearance, with no goals or assists, but his early exit matters because Como must now prepare for Fiorentina without knowing whether he will be available. Fiorentina are 19th after six league matches, with four points and a goal difference of minus seven, and have lost their last match. The immediate issue for Como is simpler: the injury has no stated recovery window, and Sunday’s trip is close.
