Francesco Camarda and Fikayo Tomori make their first starts of the season as Milan face Salzburg in the Europa League, giving both players a significant chance to shape a 4-4-2 at the Red Bull Arena. Camarda leads the attack alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek, while Tomori partners Koni De Winter in central defence.
Milan’s starting XI is Mike Maignan in goal, with Tomori, De Winter, Strahinja Pavlović and Davide Bartesaghi across the back. Zachary Athekame Hutchinson, Ardon Jashari, Adrien Rabiot and Cisse form the midfield four. Christian Pulisic, Luka Modrić and Samuel Chukwueze are among the attacking options on the bench.
The selection gives Camarda his first starting opportunity of the campaign in a two-forward setup, rather than placing him among the substitutes. Tomori also starts for the first time this season, with De Winter alongside him in the centre of defence. The lineup marks a change in personnel for Milan, while the 4-4-2 provides the structure for the European fixture.
Salzburg line up in a 4-2-3-1, with Petar Ratkov leading the attack. Romanian referee Horațiu Feșnic is in charge. Kick-off at the Red Bull Arena is scheduled for 18:45, with the match the second round of the Europa League league phase.
The timing gives the starts added importance: Milan’s domestic fixture against Atalanta follows on Sunday, 18 October. The Rossoneri are fifth in Serie A with 12 points from six games, so this European match sits in a busy stretch rather than in isolation. Camarda and Tomori have the chance to make their first starts count before Milan return to league action.
