Cagliari have 13 points from six Serie A games after holding Juventus to a 1-1 draw, and goalkeeper Elia Caprile says their defensive discipline remains the foundation of that start. The result leaves the Sardinians fourth, two points ahead of sixth-placed Juventus on 11.
Caprile said Cagliari returned to the pitch after the break with the same intent to keep Juventus from scoring. “Not conceding is our main characteristic,” he said, explaining that the team are also trying to build from the back but still place their main emphasis on defensive solidity.
That approach was tested when Juventus levelled. Caprile said Cagliari stayed balanced and focused rather than losing their shape against a side capable of making them suffer. In his view, the response showed that the team wanted to leave the Unipol Domus with points—and they did.
The goalkeeper’s comments offer a clear explanation for Cagliari’s position after six rounds: their points tally, he said, has been built around making it difficult for opponents to score. They are working to play out from defence, but Caprile’s message was that this development cannot come at the expense of the quality he sees as their defining strength.
Caprile also addressed the possibility of returning to the national team. He said the coach’s other choices were fair and that his focus is on Cagliari. “Doing well” for his club, he said, could give him a route back into the national side. For now, he is concentrating on training: “The better I train, the better I am on the pitch.”
He named a save against Juventus forward Randal Kolo Muani as his toughest of the match, while noting that the forward was offside. The moment stood out to Caprile, but his broader assessment was about Cagliari’s composure after conceding.
Cagliari travel to Monza on 19 October, while Juventus host Lazio the day before. The draw keeps the sides separated by two points; Cagliari’s next test is to carry the defensive resolve Caprile described into their next league match.
