Atalanta and Pafos FC are level at the top of the Conference League standings, so the winner in Bergamo will take sole possession of first place. For Atalanta, the match also offers a chance to build on a much-needed domestic win before returning to Serie A.

Maurizio Sarri’s side beat Venezia 3-1 to end a run of three consecutive league defeats against Juventus, Cagliari and Roma. Atalanta are 10th in Serie A with nine points from six matches: three wins, three defeats and a goal difference of zero. Their last five games across all competitions have brought two wins and three losses, with seven goals scored and six conceded.

That recent victory gives Atalanta a better platform, but the numbers underline how much is still to fix in the league. A European win would bring a clear reward straight away: sole command of the Conference League standings.

Pafos arrive after a 3-1 away win over Anorthosis in the Cypriot league. Ricardo Sa Pinto’s team have taken three wins, a draw and a defeat from their last five matches in all competitions. That run also includes a 1-0 Super Cup win over Omonia Nicosia and a 2-0 defeat to AEL Limassol.

The clubs have never met in an official match. Pafos were founded in 2014 through the merger of AEP Paphos and AE Paphos, and have since become a force in Cypriot football and a presence in Europe. A match against Atalanta puts that progress to a direct test, with first place immediately available to the winner.

The match is available live on NOW and Sky Sport. Atalanta’s next league fixture is away to AC Milan on Sunday, October 18, making a European result an opportunity to carry momentum into a demanding domestic test.
