Massimiliano Allegri is not expected to lose his Napoli job despite the club’s fifth defeat in its first nine matches, Calciomercato.com reports. The latest setback came against Venezia, who had been bottom of the table before Akor Adams’ early second-half goal and Filip Stanković’s saves secured the win.
The result leaves Napoli with three wins, one draw and five defeats across their opening nine games in all competitions. Calciomercato.com says the club had not made such a start since 2001/02, when Napoli recorded the same balance after nine matches.
Three of Napoli’s defeats have come in their first seven league games, while they have also lost both of their Champions League fixtures. Verified match records place them ninth in Serie A with 10 points from seven matches. For Venezia, the victory brought their first three points of the season.
The result has intensified pressure around Allegri and the team, but Calciomercato.com stresses that the coach’s position remains secure for now. Before the match, DAZN had asked viewers in a poll whether Allegri was at risk of dismissal. The defeat followed that discussion and added to an already difficult run, but the report does not say Napoli have decided to change managers.
There was also a tense exchange with travelling supporters after the final whistle. Calciomercato.com reports that Napoli’s players went to the away end, where fans demanded explanations. Rumours had surfaced about the squad entering a training retreat, but the outlet says any decision rests with the club and coaching staff.
The pressure comes against the backdrop of a difficult period for Napoli after their title-winning season under Luciano Spalletti. Calciomercato.com recalls that Aurelio De Laurentiis turned to Rudi Garcia before dismissing him, a spell followed by a succession of coaches and poor results. The outlet says the current project is beginning to look unstable, even as Allegri’s job is not currently expected to be in danger.
Napoli’s immediate focus is the Champions League, where they face Bodø/Glimt in the third round of the league phase. After two defeats, Calciomercato.com says they need a win to revive their qualification hopes. Their next listed Serie A match is at home to Roma on 24 October.
