Getting startedRate limits
Rate limits
Each plan allows a number of requests per minute, and the Data plans a number per day. Your account shows the limits for your key and how much of them you use each day.
Read the headers
Every response tells you where you stand, so your code can slow down before it hits the limit.
| Header | Meaning |
|---|---|
X-RateLimit-Limit | Requests allowed per minute on your plan |
X-RateLimit-Remaining | Requests left in the current minute |
X-Quota-Limit | Requests allowed per day, on plans with a daily limit |
X-Quota-Remaining | Requests left today; the count starts again at X-Quota-Reset |
When you go over
Requests over the limit get 429 with the code RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED (per minute) or QUOTA_EXCEEDED (per day) and a Retry-After header. Wait that many seconds and try again; do not retry in a tight loop.
Use fewer requests
- Cache fixtures and tables for a few minutes; they change rarely.
- Ask for live matches in one list request instead of one request per match.
- Refresh live scores every 15 to 30 seconds, not on every page view.
